What password do I use and how to change it?

All the machines use your Admitto password for authentication. Some machines are locked down so only members of certain research groups can access them. If this is the case you will get an error message saying 'only members of group whatever may log in' if you are not in the appropriate group.

How do you install software

Software on Managed Windows Workstations is managed through WPKG. You can select software to install at The software should then get installed when you shut your workstation down.

We have a large list of software available by WPKG. If there is something you can't find, contact us.

Where can I store my files?

Data on windows workstations is not automatically backed up. Many groups use a fileserver to store crtitical data. If you're in doubt about how/where you should be storing your data, you may want to consult your group computer rep.

How do you read email?

It depends on which of the University's mail systems you use, Hermes or Exchange Online. New students starting in October 2018 will have Exchange Online.


There are two main options: thunderbird, or webmail. For Hermes webmail go to Thunderbird is available through WPKG. When you first start Thunderbird you need to tell it your email address and password, after which it will automatically connect to Hermes email.

To use EoL webmail, go to and click on Outlook once logged in.
