Ubuntu 12.04 Linux Workstations
The Computer Officers maintain a standard Linux image that anyone in the department can have installed on their hardware. The advantage of using this image is that it's maintained by the Computer Officers, so a lot of common software is already installed and preconfigured, and you don't have to worry about security patches and upgrades on it.
