Please follow these steps in the exact order provided. Do not skip any steps

Windows

1. Open File Explorer and navigate to: C:\Users\<your username>\OpenVPN\config\

Take note of the name of the config file or folder you see. If it's a folder, open it to check for a config file inside

2. If you see a file named chemistry-tcp-win10-token file download this. If you instead see a chemistry-win10-token file download this config file.

3. Click on the download and import the file

4. Go to the folder :C:\Users\<your username>\OpenVPN\config\

  • Identify the exact name of the newest configuration folder, which should have the highest number. For example:
    • chemistry-win10-token(3) ← New
    • chemistry-win10-token(2) ← Old

5. Add the credentials file from the old config folder into the new config folder (chemistry-win10-token) folder

  • e.g. chemistry-win10-token(2)\credentials into chemistry-win-token(3)

6. Once this has been done, Connect to the VPN by clicking on the arrow on the bottom right of your screen. Then right click on the OpenVPN symbol and connect to the the newest configuration file.

7. You can check if it works through clicking here. If it works follow the steps below. If it doesn't work go to the VPN not connecting section

  • Check the config directory for an old folder:
    • If a folder exists, delete the chemistry-win10-token folder
    • If  no folder exists, delete chemistry-win10-token file instead

VPN not connecting

1. Go into file explorer and open the directory :  C:\Users\<your username>\OpenVPN\config\

  •  Here you should have either:
    • Only a credentials and chemistry-win10-token
    • Or only a folder named chemistry-win10-token with a credentials and chemistry-win10-token inside of it
  • If this is not the case please follow the Windows instructions from beginning again

2.Delete any old config files in C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config\

3. Try looking at the troubleshooting steps here : https://www.ch.cam.ac.uk/computing/openvpn-troubleshooting
