Professor Jonathan Nitschke
Professor Jonathan Nitschke has been awarded the 2024 Supramolecular Chemistry Award for his contributions to macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry.
The award recognises both Jonathan and his research group for their “exceptional research contributions” in this field.
Jonathan and his team are interested in discovering and developing new ways in which simple building blocks can be induced to self-assemble into complex, functional structures.
The group is widely known for designing hollow supramolecular capsules or ‘cages’, which could safely deliver drug therapies, reduce the costs and environmental effects of chemical purification, and for many other possible uses.
Jonathan says: “This sort of thing reflects my group members’ talent; I'm tremendously honoured that some amazing people have chosen to join the group and have gone on to do very well. It’s been great to follow their subsequent successes from afar."
The prize is awarded by the Royal Society of Chemistry Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry Interest group (MASC), which also runs a number of events, conferences and seminars to serve the Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry community.
The award will be presented to Jonathan at the 2024 MASC annual meeting in York in December. It was previously won by Professor Chris Hunter of this department in 2020.
