Afterwards there will be a reception with opportunities to discuss careers in coatings with Peter Collins, a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Coatings Group. All members of the department are welcome.
This is intended as a light-hearted overview of the novel behaviour that coatings have and can be exploited in applications, with lots of audience participation and demonstrations. The opportunities for a range of careers in this area will also be presented. This is part of the Royal Society of Chemistry Surface Coatings Group Outreach programme.
If you see any posters around the department then test the interactive coatings such as the thermal coating that disappears when it is warmed. This is similar technology to the material that Clarke's tie is made out of in the heading photograph that changes colour when it warms up.
