Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

 

The Department of Chemistry is seeking an experienced electrician to join our in-house maintenance team. As the senior electrician, the role holder supervises the other electrician and electrical apprentice to provide a complete electrical service including installation, preventative electrical maintenance and breakdown repairs independently of any electrical supervision The team are also involved in minor refurbishments in the department.

Chemistry is a big Department with a large amount of plant and machinery.
The duties will include installations, fault finding and diagnostic breakdown repairs to electrical items including mains circuits, sub-circuits, 3 phase, fans, pumps, control circuits, lighting, switch gear, inverters and motors. The role holder will also work with and supervise external electrical contractors, interactions with Estates, source electrical supplies and assist the Fire Manager.

The successful qualified candidate will be 18th Edition trained and have a broad knowledge and experience of all aspects of industrial and domestic electrical work. They will also have City and Guilds - Electrical Installation Part 1 & Part 2 and/or an NVQ level 3 in electrical installation plus a preferably a City and Guilds 2391 electrical testing, inspection and verification as well. They will be able to demonstrate a flexible attitude to work, good interpersonal skills plus good organisational and communication skills. They must also be able to deal with a wide range of people at all levels, work unsupervised, prioritise their own work, work under pressure and use their own initiative. Some supervisory experience would be beneficial.
