Chemistry Department PhD student Roxanne Middleton was awarded the Silver Award for her research poster at the SET for BRITAIN exhibition of posters by early-career research scientists at Westminster on 7 March 2016.

Roxanne is a member of the Vignolini research group in the Department of Chemistry.  Her poster  “Biomimetic optical materials made of cellulose” was awarded Silver in the Physics category of the competition.  The Vignolini Group studies the optical properties of natural photonic structures by studying their assembly and optical response, research that hovers on the boundaries of chemistry and physics.

SET for BRITAIN exists to raise the profile of Britain’s early-stage researchers at Westminster by engaging Members of both Houses of Parliament with current science, engineering and mathematics research being undertaken in the UK.

The event was sponsored by Stephen Metcalfe, MP, Chairman of the SET for BRITAIN organising group of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee.
