Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

The department is delighted to announce that Andreas Bender, George Booth and Lucy Colwell have been appointed as lecturers.

Dr. Andreas Bender, previously a fixed-term Lecturer for Molecular Informatics in the Unilever Centre, has been appointed as University Lecturer in a permanent capacity. His research focuses on combining algorithm development, implementation and validation in the areas of computational methods. He actively collaborates internationally and engages with the pharmaceutical sector, focusing on research in ligand design, cheminformatics and chemical biology.

Dr. George Booth has joined the Department as Lecturer in Theoretical Chemistry for a fixed term of three years. George has been a Research Fellow at Trinity College working in Ali Alavi's group developing successful stochastic methods. His research specialises in computational electronic structure theory, with a parallel development of high-level numerical techniques and their application.

Dr. Lucy Colwell has been appointed as University Lecturer. She held a EPSRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in DAMTP and concurrently a Visiting Fellowship at the Lewis-Sigler Institute at Princeton. Lucy's research focuses on data analytics, particularly as applied to biological or medical systems. She
graduated in mathematics at Trinity, and obtained her PhD at Harvard under the supervision of Michael Brenner.
