Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

Swapping lab coats for cricket whites

The department has been fielding a cricket team this summer in a season almost as exciting as the Cricket World Cup.

They squared off against the Genome Campus, the Departments of Archaeology and Molecular Biology, the Cavendish Lab and the Perse School. And after five matches, they went into their final fixture on 24th July hoping for a win to level their season tally at 3 wins and 3 losses.

The team is captained by postdoc Matthew Dunstan, a Research Fellow in the Grey Group.

Sadly, they did not clinch a win in their final match. But they did put on a strong showing during the season, he says. "Probably the highlight was some excellent opening batting in an earlier game against Zoology, where Tim Allen got 47 and James Douthwaite (a new player in the team from the Phipps Lab) got an unbeaten half century."

The picture shows the team:

Back row: Philip Allen, Chris Parkins (Melville Lab/Scherman Group), Dr Finian Leeper, Souvik Roy (Reisner Lab), David Gibson (Phipps Group )and Luis Carrasco.
Front row: Sarfarraz Ali, Matthew Dunstan (Grey Group), Adam Lovett and Tim Allen.

Anyone interested in joining the team next year should contact Matthew.
