Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

A Research Group website can have one or more group leaders defined. Any changes to the list of group leaders needs to be done by the Computer Officers, but once the group leaders are defined, all people recorded in the Department database as having the group leader(s) as their supervisor will automatically appear on the website.

For people who already have a staff page on the main Department website the Research Group site will automatically import the contents of that page. Any edits to the staff page must be made on the main Department website - it will not be possible to edit the content of the page on the Research Group site. (changes made to staff pages on the main Department website will be automatically imported into the Research Group website)

Staff category

People listed on the People page of the site are grouped into Staff categories (e.g. Group Leader, Graduate Students). This is automatically determined from the person's current role recorded in the Department database. However, if you need to override the automatically-determined role, you can tick the Custom staff category box when editing the page and then change the Staff category as you wish.

Note that as you start to type in the Staff category box, you will automatically be presented with a list of matching categories that already exist on the site. If you wish to create a new category, you just need to enter the new category name and it will be automatically created.

Selected publications

You can specify Selected publications for a person, from the list of publications present in the Department's Symplectic database. Start typing the title of the publication you wish to add, and you will automatically be presented with a list of all matching publication titles.

You can re-order any Selected publications by dragging the double-headed arrow displayed to the left of each publication title up or down.

Editing rights

Staff pages can be edited by the site editor, as well as by the person with whom the staff page is associated.

Adding external people to the staff pages

Staff pages for external people (ie not in the Chemistry Admin database) can be added by going to Add Content and selecting External Staff Page as the content-type.

Adding internal people from other research groups to the staff pages

If you want a person supervised by someone other than the site's configured group leaders to appear, go to Add Content and select Staff Page. Put in their crsid, save the page, then immediately edit it and override their Physical Status from Unknown to Current. You will have to remember to undo this when they leave the group, as it won't happen automatically.
