The Department of Chemistry is delighted to announce that Professor Jane Clarke and Professor Ali Alavi have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Society.

The University of Cambridge and the Chemistry Department have once again been rated top in the UK by the Complete University Guide. 

Department of Chemistry Researchers show that pollution from human activity in East Asia is having a negative effect on air quality in tropical rainforests thousands of kilometres away, and could harm the ozone layer if levels continue to increase.

Postdoc Chris Forman will talk about “Natural Nanotechnology” at this year’s Cheltenham Science Festival on Thursday the 4th of June.  Of course technology doesn’t grow on trees... does it? 

The Chemistry Department's inaugural Schlumberger Lecturer, Professor Yi Cui of Stanford University, will visit the Department from 26 - 27 March.   

The Department of Chemistry’s plans for a new £22.8 million Chemistry of Health Centre have received the thumbs up from the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF), who have approved the department’s full funding bid for £17.6 million. 

As part of the University of Cambridge Science Festival in March, the Department of Chemistry will open its laboratories to the public on Saturday 14 March.

The Department is pleased to congratulate Prof. Sir Alan Battersby on his 90th birthday.

The Lord Lewis Memorial Symposium will be held on Friday, 27th February 2015, at Robinson College, Cambridge.  

Dr Tuomas Knowles, Dr Sam Cohen, Dr Paolo Arosio, Prof. Michele Vendruscolo and Prof. Chris Dobson, together with research teams from Sweden and Estonia have identified a molecule that can block the progress of Alzheimer's disease.

The Department is delighted to announce that Professor Chris Abell has been appointed to become Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research. His appointment will start on 1st January 2016 and will be for a term of three years. 

Professor Carl Djerassi died in San Francisco on 30 January 2015 at the age of 91.

Neil Harris and John Pyle have recently been awarded the NERC International Impact Prize, and the Overall Prize.
