16 students from Manchester visited the Hunter Group on 12 June to find out more about chemical research at the University of Cambridge.
The group of A-level students, from Xaverian College in Manchester, arrived in time for a mingling lunch with members of the Hunter Group, followed by a series of short research talks in which group members described their work. The group members then paired off with the students for tours of the group's work space and the department. The visit was planned following a request from Dr Rob Hyde, who finished his PhD with Chris Hunter in Sheffield in 1996. Rob is now Head of Chemistry at Xaverian College and wanted to offer his students a view on chemical research in an academic context.
The lunch and refreshments were covered through the EPSRC Impact Acceleration award.
