Please provide a brief summary of your news, names and key dates, and any supporting materials. Submissions may include groundbreaking research results, awards and prizes, conferences, or student achievements. Send your information to news@ch.cam.ac.uk, our team will determine the most suitable way to share it.
Contribute to Chem@Cam
Published twice a year, it celebrates the people, ideas, and stories that shape our community. We welcome contributions and ideas all year round. Our pages go beyond research: personal journeys, collaborations, outreach initiatives, or moments of inspiration. If you have a story to tell or would like to be featured, please get in touch at news@ch.cam.ac.uk.
Sharing Your Research on our Website: Tips & Guidelines
Generally, we don’t publish news stories about research while an article is under embargo, so it would be helpful if you could share more details about the publisher’s policy during the embargo.
To help us draft the story, we usually ask scholars to provide brief answers to the questions below. Don’t worry if you can’t answer all of them, they’re simply a guide to help us shape the story.
Core Findings & Importance
-
What have you found, and why is it important?
-
How does this compare to what was known before?
Relevance & Impact
-
Why would a non-scientist be interested in this?
-
What problem does this solve, or what could it lead to in the future?
-
Who might benefit from this discovery (e.g. patients, industry, environment, policy)?
Clarity & Accessibility
-
What’s the simplest way to sum up the “big picture” of your research?
-
How would you explain your results to a non-specialist audience?
Next Steps & Context
- What are the next steps for your research?
- Are there any limitations or caveats we should be clear about?
Media Assets
- Do you have any images, diagrams, or videos that could help illustrate the story?
- Are there visuals (e.g. labs, fieldwork, prototypes) we could photograph? The Photography Department can help with this.

Please note: our office does not communicate directly with the press. If you wish to issue a press release about your research, or would like advice on communicating with journalists, please contact Sarah Collins in the Office of External Affairs and Communications (OEAC). If you are hoping to issue a press release about a peer-reviewed journal article, please get in touch with us or with OEAC well in advance of publication (ideally at the point of acceptance). We’re happy to liaise with OEAC on your behalf, and we also encourage researchers to keep us informed by copying us if they contact OEAC directly, so we are aware of any updates.
