Nobel Laureate Professor Robert Grubbs will give a seminar in the department on Thursday 7 April at 3:30 pm.

The Department of Chemistry has once again been rated as the top chemistry department in the UK by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016.

Professor Timothy M. Swager of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will give this year’s Lewis Lectures in the Wolfson Theatre on 27 and 29 April.

Chemistry Department PhD student Roxanne Middleton was awarded the Silver Award for her research poster at the SET for BRITAIN exhibition of posters by early-career research scientists at Westminster on 7 March 2016.

A symposium in honour of Professor Steven Ley's 70 birthday will be held in the department on Friday 8 April 2016.

Dr Gonçalo Bernardes has won the Chem Soc Rev Emerging Investigator Lectureship 2016 in Chemical Biology, which recognises emerging scientists who have made a significant contribution to their research field.

80 pupils from 20 schools in the local area enjoyed a competitive day in the teaching lab here in the department.

There was standing room only in the Wolfson Lecture Theatre as friends, family, postdocs, students and academics watched Yusuf Hamied receive the inaugural Alumni Medal from The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz.

Dr Helen Czerski will give the Alex Hopkins memorial lecture on Friday 18 March in the BMS Lecture Theatre.

Professors John Pyle, Christopher Abell, Christopher Dobson and Clare Grey are all slated to speak at the Alumni Medal Ceremony on Thursday 17 March.

The award venerates eminent leaders in protein science who have made sustained, high impact research contributions to the field. 

Over 1500 people, the majority of them children, descended on the department for the annual Chemistry Open Day and lectures. 

 Dr Peter Wothers' popular Science Festival lectures attracted full houses again this year.

Dr Christopher Forman will speak on Tuesday, 15 March as part of the University of Cambridge Science Festival.

The Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Impact 2016 have been launched to recognise and reward those whose research has led to excellent impact.
