  • Department core working hours are Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm; the main entrance doors are open Monday - Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays (during term time) 7am to 1pm. 
  • The department is closed over the Christmas/New Year period and Easter weekend.  You will get an email telling you the exact hours and days it is closed.  

Out of hours procedures

  • Out of hours experimental work is only permitted as follows:
    • Monday - Friday, 5pm - midnight
    • Saturday - Sunday, 7am - midnight
    • Experimental research workers must never work alone in the lab.  There must be at least one other person within easy call in the event of a mishap.  
    • Enter through the East entrance (by the car park) using your mifare card.
    • You MUST sign the book on the table in the foyer if you enter or leave the department Monday - Friday after 7pm or any time on weekends, so that you can be found in the event of an emergency evacuation.

  • Car parking:  The department has extremely limited car parking availability, which MUST be booked in advance. To request a space, please email car.parking@ch.cam.ac.uk.

  • Booking taxis:  Reception book all taxis - you will need an account code to charge.
  • Botanic garden passes:  Reception hold free entry tickets which you can borrow for up to a day (available Monday - Friday).

  • Visitors:  Please sign all guests in and out of the department and request a temporary mifare card.  Notify Reception in advance if you have several guests arriving.
