Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

The Department extends its congratulations to Sir John Meurig Thomas, former Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry, who has been awarded the 5th Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences.

The prize has been awarded to John for his outstanding contributions to the fundamental understanding of the structures of solids and development and application of the concept of single-site heterogeneous catalysis.

The Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences is awarded on a biennial basis to an individual scientist who has made significant and creative contributions, particularly those of a fundamental nature, to any of the disciplines of molecular sciences. The first Ahmed Zewail Prize was awarded to Professor David Buckingham, FRS in 2007.

More information about the award is available from Elsevier.
