All permissions in the website are associated with roles, and every user can have one or more roles. The following roles are configured by default on all sites:
- anonymous user - any user (i.e., somebody who is not logged in to the site)
- authenticated user - any user who has successfully authenticated using Raven (i.e., essentially any current University member)
- site editor - users who have been granted the ability to manage and configure a site
- administrator - Department IT staff
In addition, sites may have a site member role. This is not configured by default, but could be set to include all members of a particular research group in order to facilitate the creation of pages that are only visible to group members, for example.
