Dr Bill Nolan takes over as Director of Teaching today, as his predecessor, Dr James Keeler, becomes Head of Department.

Dr Nolan has a great depth of experience when it comes to our own teaching programme and also more widely in the University.  He is coming full circle, having earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry here. He currently lectures Part IB (Organic) and Part II (Organic synthesis), and received the prestigious Pilkington Teaching prize in 2006. Dr Nolan is returning to the department full time, having completed a very successful period as Senior Tutor at Robinson College.

Dr Keeler said of his successor: “I am delighted that he has agreed to take on the role as Director of Teaching, and have every confidence that he will fulfil this with energy and distinction.”

Dr Peter Wothers, who is well known for his many outreach activities, including the popular Chemistry Open Day lectures, will take on Dr Keeler’s former role of School and Outreach Officer.
