Professor Dame Clare Grey has been elected as an international member of the National Academy of Sciences.
The NAS announced the election of 120 members and 24 international members this year in recognition of their distinguished and ongoing achievements in original research.
The Grey group investigates materials with applications in supercapacitors, fuel cells, and batteries. She pioneered the application of nuclear magnetic resonance to study batteries to make discoveries about their inner workings to improve their lifetime and efficiency. These are key technologies that have implications for energy transition, such as solar and wind energy generation.
She joins other members of the department as an international member, including 2023 elects Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian and Professor Jane Clarke.
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is a non-profit society of distinguished scholars. Scientists are elected by their peers to membership in the NAS for outstanding contributions to research. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honours that a scientist can receive. Current NAS membership totals approximately 2,400 members and 500 international members, of which approximately 190 have received Nobel prizes.
