Over 1500 people, the majority of them children, descended on the department for the annual Chemistry Open Day and lectures.
The event was part of the Cambridge Science Festival, taking place at colleges and university buildings throughout the city.
The Department of Chemistry offered 17 fun packed activities including making liquid nitrogen ice-cream, blue goo and eco-batteries. Postdocs, PhD students, technicians, support staff and academics, volunteered their services to help run the day and explain a range of wacky chemical facts to rapt young (and young-ish) audiences. Dr Peter Wothers was in his element, as usual, in the continuously packed BMS lecture hall giving his 'Just Add Water' talk.
The Open Day was organised by Emma Powney, overseen by Professor James Keeler and supported by the Walters-Kundert Trust. The Festival continues until March 20.
