Seven years ago, this company began as an idea within the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge.
Today, Cambridge University spinout Nyobolt has secured $60 million in Series C funding at a valuation of more than $1 billion, marking a major commercial milestone for battery research pioneered by Professor Dame Clare Grey and her research group.
Co-founded by Professor Grey and CEO Sai Shivareddy, Nyobolt has translated world-leading Cambridge research in battery chemistry and materials science into ultra-fast charging technology capable of charging in seconds while lasting up to ten times longer than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
The company’s technology is now being deployed globally in AI data centres, warehouse robotics and autonomous systems. “Nyobolt is enabling the always-on, always-moving infrastructure that physical AI demands,” said Shivareddy. “The enterprises deploying autonomous systems at scale can’t afford downtime, swap time or power flickers. Our technology delivers a powerful trifecta: improved performance, exceptional durability and a more sustainable operation.”
The funding round was led by Symbotic, a leader in AI-enabled robotics technology for the supply chain. Nyobolt said revenues grew fivefold over the last year as demand accelerated for high-performance battery systems supporting AI-enabled infrastructure and robotics.
