The Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry is delighted to announce that Professors Sir Shankar Balasubramanian and Sir David Klenerman, together with Dr Pascal Mayer (University of Strasbourg), have been awarded the 2026 Wolf Prize in Chemistry for their contributions to the development of impactful, low-cost next-generation DNA sequencing methods.
Their work has had a profound impact across genomics, medicine and the life sciences, enabling researchers to study DNA at an unprecedented scale and accelerating discoveries in human health and disease.
The Wolf Prize is awarded annually to recognise exceptional achievements in science and the arts that contribute to the advancement of humanity. Established in 1978, it has honoured leading researchers and artists across fields including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Medicine and Agriculture.
