Chung Tu getting a fast start off the starting blocks on a track

CDT administrator Chung Tu gets a quick start off the starting blocks for his team "Are we nearly there yet?"

Teams of staff members and postgrads stepped, climbed stairs, ran, and even jogged on the spot to compete for victory in the Virtual Team Step Challenge, organised in April by Wellbeing Advocate Kathleen Pickett.

To enter, teams of four had to record their daily steps throughout April, and the team with the most collective steps won.

Teams with imaginative names such as "Scrambled Legs," "Happy Feet," and "Are we nearly there yet?" showed great effort, but no one could beat "Turning Beakers into Sneakers" who racked up an astonishing 1,897,080 steps over the 30-day period, closely followed by "The ones to keep an ion" with 1,805,341 steps.

All team members received certificates of participation, but mainly the event was just for fun, and of course to help promote an active lifestyle.

"We had a good mix of entrants, with academics, academic-related, assistant staff and students all represented," says Kathleen Pickett. "It was incredibly successful, so watch this space for the next Step Challenge in the new term!"
