Covid update

Social interactions seem to be the source of most infections of Department members, and it’s only natural at this time of year for groups to host holiday gatherings and parties. Head of Department James Keeler says: “I encourage everyone to consider very carefully whether or not group social gatherings are really wise in the situation we find ourselves in. I am sorry to be a party-pooper, but regretfully I feel that the situation warrants further caution.” The two-metre social distancing rule has also been re-introduced to the Cybercafé in light of the recent incursions of the omicron variant.

If a group decides to go ahead with an event, there are lots of measures that can be taken to reduce risk including social distancing, good ventilation (a brisk walk in lieu of a cozy fireside get together?), or asking that guests take a lateral flow test beforehand, and of course, by taking up vaccinations and boosters if able.

James and Support Services Manager Marita Walsh have been keeping Department members informed of all changes through regular emails, and the Department Covid webpages are regularly updated.

Happy Holidays from Dr James Keeler 2021

Our Head of Department gives his annual end of year review.

Once again James has been put out of his 'comfort zone' by having to film his end of year talk, which he says he would much rather give in person! You can see the talk below - be sure to watch long enough to catch the bloopers at the end!
