A wide selection of homemade baked delights were on offer at the department’s Macmillan coffee morning in September.
A total of 13 department members donated homemade baked goods to raise money for Macmillan cancer support.
The delicious selection, which was served by volunteers in the Cybercafé, ranged from lemon bars, Victoria sponges and chocolate cake to a selection of gluten-free goodies.
Donations from thousands of coffee mornings across the UK go to support the three million people in the UK living with cancer, from the moment they are diagnosed, through treatment and beyond.
Altogether the department raised over £430 to support this charity.
“The annual Macmillan cake morning is a really uplifting event, bringing the Department together and raising money for such a great charity. Thanks to everyone who baked, ate and donated!” says Kathleen Pickett, who is one of the department’s two Wellbeing Advocates and who organises the event every year.
“I think donating to charity is important, as it allows us who can to help those facing difficult times,” says our newest Wellbeing Advocate Emma Solaas, who also helped organise and serve the cakes. “Macmillan as a charity is special to me as my mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and so I can understand the hardships of those diagnosed and those close to them.”
Both Kathleen and Emma would like to thank all the bakers who contributed to the morning, and Emma Watson, who also helped serve on the day. “It would not be possible to raise this money without everybody’s help,” says Emma.
