Jasmine Wilkinson and Ryan Mitchell said their marriage vows on the 10th of June.

The wedding took place at the Ely Registry Office, very near to Ryan and Jasmine’s home which is located just five minutes from Ely Cathedral. “We love living near the Cathedral, it’s amazing,” says Jasmine.

After a celebratory lunch with family and friends who attended the ceremony, Jasmine and Ryan then held a larger evening reception with dancing for over 75 guests at nearby Witcham Village Hall.

For the wedding, Jasmine wore a white cotton tiered maxi dress, just right for the perfect summer weather. Her summer bouquet matched her colour scheme of pastel pink and purple.

Jasmine was very proud that her mother made the wedding cake, which had one tier of lemon and elderflower cake while the other was a Victoria sponge, decorated with white icing and pastel flowers.

Jasmine first met Ryan, who is two years older than her, eight years ago at the Slam Dunk Music Festival in Hertfordshire, and she says “we’ve been together ever since.” They both attended the University of Essex in Colchester where Ryan read Computer Science while Jasmine did Linguistics.

Ryan is now a game developer who works for Jagex, a video game developer based in the Cambridge Science Park. Ironically, the couple had been living in Suffolk, but moved to Ely so that Ryan could commute to Cambridge. But since the pandemic Ryan has been working from home, and Jasmine is now the one who commutes!

Most staff members will recognise Jasmine’s cheery smile from Reception, and she also acts as Secretary to several academics. Jasmine says she is very thankful for her friends and colleagues here who have been so supportive of the wedding. Her fellow secretaries and other colleagues got together to present Jasmine with a Le Creuset casserole dish as a wedding present, and they also held a celebration for Jasmine during coffee time, for which Emma Graham made and decorated a charming bridal cake topped with sparkly doughnuts. Additionally, fellow receptionist Mira Korkiakoski’s fiancé Petri Murto, who is a postdoc in the Bronstein group, took all the photos at the wedding. “I’m very lucky to have such good colleagues,” says Jasmine.

Jasmine is now known as Jasmine Mitchell.
