The department cricket team had one of its best seasons ever this summer, making it all the way to finals of the University Inter-departmental Cricket League.
The final match was played against Molecular Biology on Thursday 11 July. It was a sunny evening at the University Cricket Ground Fenner’s, located just down the road from the department, many of whom came over to support our team.
The team is normally captained by Hunter group PhD student and cricket enthusiast Fergal Hanna. Unfortunately, Fergal couldn’t attend the final because he had to attend a conference, but he says with great equanimity: “I’m just happy we’re having some success for once!”
Alas, a championship trophy was not to be, as the team lost in the final to Molecular Biology, by 12 runs, chasing 147.
The league season usually runs from May through to July. Teams generally play one match a week on weekdays starting about 5:45. Other teams in the league include the Departments of Archaeology, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Physics, the Genome Campus and the Perse Teachers.
Players of all levels and abilities are very welcome. If you are interested, contact Fergal at feh27@cam.ac.uk.
