On 6 September, scientists from Discovery Sciences, AstraZeneca will visit the Department of Chemistry to give a course on Mechanistic Enzymology.

Enzymes are remarkable catalysts that lie at the heart of biology, accelerating chemical reations with extraordinary specificity.

Enzymology provides a vital link between chemistry and biology, and understanding the role of enzymes and how to modulate their activity remains a key focus for drug discovery.

This short course will provide a brief introduction to the kinetics and thermodynamics of ligand binding, an overview of different enzyme inhibition mechanisms, as well as an illustration of the analysis of time-dependent inhibition.

The day-long course with be presented by members of the Discovery Sciences AstraZeneca team, and is open to AstraZeneca scientists and Chemistry Department students and postdocs who are interested in this fascinating subject.  There will be an opportunity for students and postdocs to network with AstraZeneca scientists during the course of the day.  For more information on the course and/or to book a place, please go to http://www.training.cam.ac.uk/chem/event/1871469.
