Colleges and departments across the University of Cambridge opened their doors to potential undergraduates during the annual Cambridge Open Days on 30 June and 1 July.

The Department of Chemistry received a steady stream of visitors at its marquee on the Sidgwick site. Deputy Heads of Department Dr Nick Bampos and Dr James Keeler (who is also Director of Undergraduate Teaching) were among those manning the booth and providing insight and information on what it’s like to study chemistry at Cambridge.

Prospective chemistry students must apply to the Natural Sciences Tripos, known as “NatSci”, which is the framework within which most sciences are taught at Cambridge. NatSci is a broad course in which students can choose from a wide range of sciences in their first year, gradually choosing which science they’d like to specialise in during Years 2 and 3.

This year’s Cambridge Open Days were for Year 12 students (or equivalent) and mature applicants considering making an application in October 2016 for entry in October 2017 (or deferred entry to October 2018).

The next Cambridge Open Days will take place on 6 and 7 July 2017.

Attendees have the opportunity to find out what the University and Colleges have to offer, attend presentations on courses, the application process, student support, finance and careers.

A number of Colleges also hold their own separate open days later this year.
