Research Associate

Dr. Kostas Papadopoulos graduated Chemical Engineering (2018) and later defended his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras (2022), where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Dimitrios Vayenas on wastewater treatment using algal-bacterial aggregates. He went on to work at the Algal Innovation Center (Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge), before joining the Bio-inspired Photonics Group (Prof. Silvia Vignolini) as a postdoctoral researcher in 2023.

Kostas’ research is centered around sustainability and circular economy. He utilises light-driven microorganisms (microalgae and cyanobacteria) to facilitate sustainable processes in bioremediation, bioenergy, and food/feed applications. His current research is focused on optimising light delivery in algal biofilm photobioreactors.
