Dr. Camila Honorato-Rios obtained her degree in Chemical Engineering at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and her Master's degree in Chemical Engineering at Åbo Akademi University in Finland. Later in 2019, she received her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Luxembourg, under the inspiring supervision of Prof. Jan Lagerwall, where she studied the self-assembly of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) into chiral nematic liquid crystalline phases. During her doctoral studies, she primarily focused on the real effect of the rod size and dispersity of these CNC particles on the development of the helix in the CNC suspensions and on how this impacts the later formation of the colourful films. After her Ph.D., she joined the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), where she was responsible for the scale-up production of lignin particles (from batch to continuous processes), in close collaboration with the American tyre company Goodyear. Her main tasks in the Vignolini group aim to develop wood-based materials for a wide range of applications.
