Biophysical and Biochemical Instrumentation

The MPACC facility contains 3 AKTA Pure systems for analytical and prep grade purification of proteins (please note these are low pressure systems, not HPLC), instruments for spectroscopy (UV-Vis absorbance, CD, fluorescence, stopped-flow) and binding measurements (auto iTC 200, MST, Octet). Additional instruments include a qPCR machine, gel documentation system plus trans-blot transfer system, lyophiliser and minus 80 freezer.

The Fermentation Suite and C. elegans Lab

MPACC houses a fermentation lab for members wishing to do recombinant protein expression in E.coli or yeast systems. We also provide a dedicated lab for researchers who would like to use C.elegans. All work performed in these labs is at Containment Level 1 and must be covered by a current biological risk assessment approved by the Departmental Biological Safety Officer, Dr. Richard Turner (rmt35@cam.ac.uk).

The Tissue Culture Suite

Our tissue culture facility contains all the equipment required for standard cell biology techniques, including access to a Cytoflex flow cytometer. All users must attend a training course at CRUK. All work performed in this lab is at Containment Level 1 and must be covered by a current biological risk assessment approved by the Departmental Biological Safety Officer, Dr. Richard Turner (rmt35@cam.ac.uk).
