The award, which is part of the Long-Range Initiative of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC, www.cefic.org/) is connected with prize money of 100.000 EUR for his proposal on the joint modeling of chemical, biological and phenotypic information to predict the toxicity of chemical structures. Given both scientific developments (more data of different types is becoming available) as well as legal requirements (such as the REACH agreement) novel ways to anticipate toxic effects of compounds are of great importance both in the pharmaceutical as well as the consumer goods industry.
Below the award recipient can be seen at his personal award ceremony, with a good glass of Leffe (given the event was held in Brussels, Belgium).
