If you discover a FIRE:

Raise the alarm using the red ‘break-glass’ boxes

  • The ‘EVACUATE’ fire voice alert will be heard
  • Attack the fire with an extinguisher, but only if it is safe to do so

  • Evacuate the building by your nearest safe exit

8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday

5:00 pm – 8:00 am Monday to Friday & at weekends, from a safe location:

If you hear the VOICE ALERT:

  • “PREPARE TO EVACUATE” – be ready for further instructions

  • “EVACUATE” or the TWO TONE alarm - Before evacuating, without taking

    risks, ensure that apparatus, fume cupboards and services are switched off,

    or made safe.

  • Leave the building by the nearest safe exit, DO NOT use the lifts.

  • Assemble at the Evacuation Assembly Point outside of the East and West

    Entrances.

In case of ACCIDENT / INJURY / ILLNESS 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday:

  • Tel: 36454, giving clear instructions regarding location of casualty

5:00 pm – 8:00 am Monday to Friday & at weekends:

  • Call the University Security Control Centre - Tel: 101

  • Call Departmental Security - Tel: 36454

  • If the injury or illness is serious, immediately dial 9-999 for an Ambulance

In case of an INCIDENT (security, gas / cryogen / water leaks etc.)
