Josh is a Research Fellow in Biological Sciences in the Zhang group, as well as at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. His research focuses on combining bioelectrochemical systems with techniques from molecular and synthetic biology to elucidate and engineer the electrical pathways found within living organisms. A large focus of his work is on interfacing natural membranes with electrodes, enabling the analysis of the electron transport pathways within these membranes, alongside their 'rewiring' for applications in solar energy conversion. Additionally, Josh is interested in developing high-throughput platforms for screening the electrical activity of mutant bacteria. Josh has previously developed gene circuits enabling the expression of genes to be controlled with electrochemical signals.
