Research Associate

Dr. Paraskevi Kasapidou is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Melville laboratory for Polymer Synthesis in the University of Cambridge.

Paraskevi obtained her BSc. in Chemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2012. During her undergraduate studies Paraskevi was awarded a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation for excellent performance. In 2014, she obtained her MSc., summa cum laude, in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, under the supervision of Prof. J. Stephanidou-Stephanatou at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her MSc thesis focused on the synthesis of a library of novel chromone derivatives via multicomponent reactions and investigation of their antioxidant activity. In October 2015, Paraskevi moved to the United Kingdom to pursue her doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Vladimir Gubala in the group of Chemistry and Drug Delivery at the Medway School of Pharmacy at the University of Kent. During her PhD studies, Paraskevi was awarded the Researcher Mobility Grant from Royal Society of Chemistry which allowed her to carry out a three-month internship working with Dr Hélène Castel in INSERM U1239 at the University of Rouen, France. Her research focused on the synthesis of chemoattractant-loaded polysaccharide-based hydrogels as drug delivery platforms for the treatment of glioblastoma.

Dr Paraskevi Kasapidou joined the Scherman group in March 2019 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate working on the IRC on Hard-to-Treat Cancers consortium funded by EPSRC. Her current focus is on the preparation of polymer-based hydrogels based on cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) host-guest interactions for localised drug delivery and the quantitative preparation of polymeric materials at laboratory-scale and their initial scale up from the gram to tens of gram scale.
