It's wine tasting, Jim, but not as we know it...
Bad puns, good snacks, a fiendish wine quiz - plus an opportunity to meet some of our PhD students and learn about the latest research taking place in the Department.
These were all on offer at our Alumni Wine Tasting in September 2019.
This light-hearted alumni event takes place every year. But this time, we additionally offered alumni the opportunity to visit an exhibition of posters by our students. So they were able to enjoy their first glass of wine as they browsed the posters and chatted to our PhD students about their work.
They also heard a short talk from graduate student Andrea di Antonio. He is a member of the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group here who study pollution. For his PhD research, Antonio is interested in ways of measuring particulate matter in the air.
Our alumni then took part in our 'Call My Bluff' Wine Tasting. As they sipped an array of wines, three 'experts' described the attributes of the drinks they were tasting. But there was a catch: only one of them was telling the truth. And it was up to our alumni to work out who it was.
The evening was great fun. We are very much hoping we can repeat it in September 2020. We will keep our alumni posted on whether this event can go ahead.
