Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

Sandile Mtetwa obtained her BSc Honors in Chemistry at the University of Zimbabwe and was awarded the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship to undertake an MPhil in Dr. Andrew Wheatley's group on the topic 'Monolithic MOF@MOF composites: metal-organic frameworks that offer enhanced gas storage potential' She continued on to study a PhD in the same group where she is investigating charge-carrying metal organic frameworks for their potential applications in energy and sensing. Her project is in collaboration with researchers at Sheffield in computational chemistry whose work together with Sandile's may lead to the discovery of new semiconductive and conductive MOFs. Sandile is a NanoDTC associate (2018) and also serves as the chair of Africans in STEM. Her interests are in renewable energy, climate change mitigation, circularity as well as knowledge and skills transfer between the diaspora andĀ African continent.
