Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry



Kealan was born in London and studied Chemistry at University College London (UCL). He undertook doctoral research at UCL in the group of Dr. Hugo Bronstein, working on the design, synthesis and investigation of conjugated organic polymers for use in organic electronic devices (flexible organic solar cells and field-effect transistors). In 2018, Kealan was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award by the US-UK Fulbright Commission and Lloyd's Tercentenary Research Foundation, and undertook his fellowship in the groups of Prof. Luis Campos (Columbia University) and Prof. Daniel Congreve (Harvard University), working on monomeric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with tailored optoelectronic properties for emerging multi-excitonic applications. In 2020, Kealan returned to the UK to join the University of Cambridge, and in 2021 was awarded a Ramsay Memorial Trust Fellowship, appointed between Chemistry and Physics, to focus on interdisciplinary research surrounding the development of novel materials for next-generation solar cells.
