Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

I am a PhD student in biophysical/biological chemistry. Before I joined the Jackson lab in 2018 (as an MPhil student), I did my undergraduate in Chemistry at University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. During my undergraduate studies I was involved in several research projects at IOCB Prague where I focused on the employment of chiroptical spectroscopies in studying small peptides and their behaviour.

In my PhD project I am interested in the physical stability and aggregation of glucagon‑like peptide 1, an important human hormone which is being used in the type 2 diabetes treatment. I use various biophysical techniques to study its intrinsic propensity for oligomerization and fibrillation in vitro which could difficulties in its pharmaceutical production.

I am also involved in undergraduate supervisions, I supervised Part 1A Chemistry and demonstrated practicals for the same course.
