Research Summary

Current position. Marie Curie Fellow at Reisner Lab working in the development of hybrid materials-enzymes for solar fuel production.

Brief career summary. I began my research career at the University of Girona, where my Master thesis (thanks to a Collaboration Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry) focused on the study of water oxidation with well-defined tetra- and pentacoordinate ruthenium complexes having aminopyridyl ligand scaffolds. The work combined experimental reactivity and mechanistic studies with computational modelling and was carried out under the joint supervision of Prof. Miquel Costas and Prof. Julio Lloret. In November 2014 I joined ICIQ as a FPU doctoral student together with my advisor Prof. Julio Lloret, with whom we set up a new research laboratory from scratch. My doctoral work sought a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms involved in artificial photosynthetic schemes and their application to store sunlight energy into chemical bonds, as well as to develop new greener and sustainable methodologies to produce solar fuels and fine chemicals.

In September 2019, I started as a BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) postdoctoral researcher at the group of Prof. Reisner at the University of Cambridge. My research focussed in the development of material-protein hybrids for solar fuel synthesis. 

In March 2020, I was awarded a Marie Curie IF fellowship (MSCA-IF-2019 ref: 890745-SmArtC), so I have just been appointed Marie Curie Fellow in the same group and now my research focusses in developing compartmentalised systems for semiartificial CO2 reduction.
