Zihao attended Xiamen University where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in material science and engineering.  While at Xiamen University, Zihao did research under Dr Yuan Jiang on thin films composed of uniaxially aligned cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) which could subsequently induce the epitaxial growth of drug molecules and polymers. He now works on chiral grouping of plasmonic Ag nanoparticles within chitin nanocrystal (ChNC) templates in order to achieve materials exhibiting chiral plasmonic properties.

Taking the transparent and helicoidally architectured ChNC film as a template, the grouping of plasmonic Ag nanoparticles exhibits a strong circular dichroism (CD) signal.
