Research Associate
Dr. Brooke Longbottom is a Post Doc at the Melville Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis in the University of Cambridge.
Brooke studied his Masters in Chemistry (MChem) from 2010-2014 at the University of Warwick. During the summer of his second year (2012), he undertook a short research project in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Recycling Technologies Ltd. looking into the pyrolysis of plastic waste. As part of his third year of study he also carried out a six month research placement with Rockwood additives (now BYK) developing polymer-clay emulsions. In his final year he did his Masters project with Prof dr. ir. Stefan Bon on active colloids and their self-assembly. This sparked his interest in the field and he stayed on to do a PhD in the Bonlab (2014-2018). His PhD research involved the fabrication of anisotropic colloids and the study of their dispersed behavior, with a focus on self-phoretic motion analysed by particle tracking. For his work, Brooke was awarded a thesis prize from the faculty of science. From late 2018 to early 2019 he worked on a short post-doctoral research project in the Bonlab for Unilever investigating the formation of poly(urea) capsules for encapsulation of fragrance and active agents.
Brooke joined the Scherman group in March 2019 as a PDRA working to develop a super-resolution microscopy platform to probe the dynamics of supramolecular hydrogels. The work is funded by the ERC.
