Dr Andreas Bender, group leader at the Unilever Centre for Molecular Science Informatics, has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant for his project 'MIXTURE - Synergistic Modeling of Molecular Effects via Chemical and Biological Data Integration'. The project, funded with ca. 1.5 mio. EUR, will support four new members working in his group, who will explore the effect of administering multiple chemical compounds in parallel in a biological system. Applications of the methods to be developed range from understanding joint compound toxicities in consumer products to the rational design of drug combination therapies, areas currently very little understood.
