dexter is now a very old cluster and only 18 of its original 46 compute nodes remain operable.

dexter is owned by Daan Frenkel, David Wales, and Mark Miller. Originally it had the following features:

  • 39 eight-core dual Xeon E5-2670 (2.6GHz, Sandy Bridge) nodes
  • 7 eight-core dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 (2.6GHz, Haswell) nodes
  • 32GB RAM per Westmere node; 64GB RAM per Haswell node
  • Gigabit Ethernet interconnect

It was intended for serial task farming, and small-scale or embarrassingly parallel MPI jobs.
