Next Generation: Studentships

Dr Alex Thom with his graduate students.

The Department of Chemistry’s Next Generation Studentships programme offers full scholarships to the brightest young people who are not eligible for other scholarships, which are increasingly restricted to particular areas of research or specific groups of students.

We want to give the brightest and best students freedom to pursue excellence in research without being restricted to the latest 'hot topics'.

We also share studentships with Selwyn, Robinson and Jesus Colleges and welcome opportunities to develop more college-linked studentships.

Three students tell their stories (click on the photo to find out more):

  • A gift of £150,000 will support one PhD Studentship in Chemistry, which covers all University fees and living expenses for three to four years.

  • Partial sponsorship is also welcome, and will go toward a scholarship fund.

  • A gift of £800,000 will create a permanent endowment fund to fund one new PhD Studentship every three to four years.
