Department of Chemistry - Health and Safety Information

Computer-related Safety

This page covers various aspects of computer-related safety within the Department of Chemistry. The following terms may be used interchangeably - VDU (Visual Display Unit) and DSE (Display Screen Equipment).

Everyone who uses a computer or any other kind of DSE in the course of their daily work is considered to be a "user". Each "user" should have completed a DSE risk assessment form and should be aware of the contents of this section of the safety website. In particular, they should familiarise themselves with the advice and best practice for DSE users, and should know who to contact for further advice and/or in the event of any problems.

If you are suffering any health problems in the course of your DSE work, please contact the Safety Office who should be able to arrange a loan of various ergonomic peripherals, in the first instance.
