The cost of doing a Ph.D. or M.Phil. in chemistry for an overseas (non-European Union) student is estimated to be about £28,850 per year for students starting in October 2011. Of this sum about £17,775 is for University and College fees and the balance will be required for your maintenance/living expenses. See the Board of Graduate Studies website for updated figures when they are available.
The Department of Chemistry has no funds which it can use to assist with these costs. Overseas students are generally either self-funded or have a scholarship from some source.
Many of our overseas students have scholarships from the Cambridge Trusts, which include the Gates Cambridge Trust, the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (CCT) and the Cambridge Overseas Trust (COT). These Trusts can offer full-cost scholarships or may offer a part-cost award.
To be considered for these awards the Graduate Admission and Scholarship Application Form (GRADSAF) must be submitted by 15th October for new applicants from the U.S.A.. For other applicants (including U.S. applicants who are current Cambridge students) the form must be submitted by 1st December.
Details of these and other scholarships available from Cambridge University can be found at in the Graduate Prospectus.
