A Newly Refurbished Laboratory

The department has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme. As a result almost all of synthetic chemistry and chemical biology research is housed in brand new labs with state-of-the-art facilities.

The new library in the Unilever building

Theoretical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry and Atmospheric Chemistry are also in newly refurbished space. We also have the facilities of the Unilever Centre (opened 2000) which include our library (equipped with a suite of networked computers), cybercafe, lecture room and seminar rooms.
The Melville Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis has now moved into the same building as the rest of Chemistry and are also in newly refurbished laboratories.
Also recently completed is a new Technical Services Centre which houses the Department's electronic, mechanical and glass-blowing workshops - all vital for the development of new instruments and equipment.

Did you know? The Unilever Centre for Molecular Informatics processes chemical data from all the world's science databases. Programs now allow much better analysis of the data than when it was first acquired.
