Department of Chemistry

FT-ICR Mass Spectrometer

Postgraduate Research in Chemistry at Cambridge

Equipment

High Resolution Electron Microscopy Image of a TiO2 particle

The Department has a wealth of equipment of all sorts ranging from high pressure liquid chromatography to a research aircraft (see below).

Our analytical equipment includes a suite of X-ray diffractometers, a High Resolution Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Microscopes etc.

For synthetic chemists we have NMR spectrometers up to 700 MHz and a ,sindmswide range of mass spectrometers from a hands-on LC-MS to an FT-Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer (see above).
Perhaps most important, we have efficient services for NMR, MS and X-ray Crystallography, which ensure rapid turnround on all submitted samples.

Did you know?In the past five years, members of the Department have set up nine new companies based on their patented research. One company is developing a method of sequencing a person's DNA in a single day, while another is developing a device for rapid detection of viruses and bacteria.
